Memorial tree honors those who died in 2008
Bailey Funeral Home held its Eighth Annual Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the funeral home located at 48 Broad St. Families of those who died Nov. 30, 2007 through Dec. 7, 2008 were invited to return to the funeral home for the special outdoors ceremony.
Once again, Bailey Funeral Home provided a video memorial tribute with the names and photographs (if available) of all the loved ones being honored. The video was played continuously before, during and after the ceremony. Organizers said many of the family and friends who gathered were grateful for the opportunity to unite while rekindling warm memories of their loved ones during the holiday season.
The ceremony was led by the Rev. Dr. Claire W. Bamberg from the Congregational Church of Plainville, who shared words of comfort for those gathered. Andrea Wasley, Nicole Granados, Melissa Matthews and Michele Wegner then read the names of all the honorees who were being remembered that night. The lighting of the 2008 Memorial Tree followed and in the illumination of the tree, a moment of silence was held.
The ceremony concluded with a benediction from Bamberg and each family in was presented with the personalized ornament in honor of their loved one. The 2008 Memorial Tree will be displayed with the personalized ornaments until Jan. 1. Families who were not able to attend the ceremony but would like to receive the ornament are encouraged to contact the funeral home.
